MORNING

I've just read this:
What’s the first thing you hear in the morning? What’s the first thing you read in the morning? What’s the first thing yo do in the morning? I ask because this very first thing will shape your whole day

Keeping this in mind my language and phrases need to be something that will inspire them and set them up for a good day.

I also read this: Steps to become a successful business man
Have confident.
Have the faith about the future of your business.
Focus on your strength.
Have the ability to identify opportunities.
Great decision maker.
Have the ability to become a leader.
So  I could also include something which creates positive thinking or just puts people in a good mood.

Empowering

That morning phrase must motivate you in some form. It may refer to things you are attracted to, or it may be formulated in some familiar and pleasant way. Whatever the form, the morning phrase will unleash something from you, so be careful at what you want to let out.

pinstripes

Pin stripes are a pattern of very thin stripes running in parallel found in cloth. The pin-striped suit has become associated with conservative business attire, although many designers now produce fashionable pin-stripe patterns for fashion-conscious consumers. Fine lines for vehicles are also called pin stripes.
Although found mostly in men's suits, any type of fabric can be pin-striped. The Chicago Cubs' baseball uniforms have had pin stripes since 1907 and they are recognized as the first Major League Baseball team to incorporate pin striping into a baseball uniform.[1] Many other Major League Baseball teams — including the Minnesota Twins, Montreal Expos, New York Yankees, and Philadelphia Phillies — later adopted pin stripes on their own uniforms. This was later carried over into the NBA, with teams like the Charlotte Hornets and Orlando Magic incorporating pin stripes into their uniforms.

One observation I've made is that the stripes are almost always vertical stripes, this is how I think most people would associate pinstripes to be. I actually really like the baseball clothes with the thin black stripes on white but I'd have to consider my target market for this.

Some more white with black stripes, I'm not sure if these take way the 'businessmen' sophisticated style that I'm going to be aiming for.

Smart and sophisticated

Business men

I need to analyse and research the look and life of 'business men'

I'm looking at existing smart, consistent, simplistic brands like this which I would associate with my audience.

The language of food

It's a rich domain: vocabulary (in many languages) for food and cooking, including both everyday vocabulary and (semi-)technical vocabulary, cultural forms in these areas (when do we eat? what do we eat then? who does this? how much variation is there? how do we prepare this food? who prepares it? what cultural values do we assign to these foods?), and much else.

Witty and thought-provoking ones about food and our relationships with food

  • Food is our common ground, a universal experience.
  • What is patriotism but the love of the food one ate as a child?
  • Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside.
  • One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.
  • That’s something I’ve noticed about food: whenever there’s a crisis if you can get people to eating normally things get better.
  • Food is the most primitive form of comfort.
  • Food is a central activity of mankind and one of the single most significant trademarks of a culture.
  • If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
  • The second day of a diet is always easier than the first. By the second day you’re off it.
  • A man may be a pessimistic determinist before lunch and an optimistic believer in the will’s freedom after it.
There's many more these are just some of the first ones I like, the ones I like most are the ones that state the positives of food and how it can make a difference to your day, your life, I think some of these good be motivating and interesting to read within a restaurant

Menus

I found this menu online, which I think is something I definitely need to consider on my website, but this specific bar/restaurant I looked at had a few different menus and one was this 15minute menu, which consists of small meals so is probably a lunch menu for those in a rush and on the move.

Nandos

Nation of Shopkeepers

I really like the style of this page above, with my of using quotes I'd like to create some pages with type and white space only to make an impact, screen printed these could be really effective.

A pun

A pun

A play on words, sometimes on different senses of the same word and sometimes on the similar sense or sound of different words

I'm not sure what kind of language I want to play with yet but I'm looking into puns etc for now.

Types of Puns

I like the idea of tongue twisters this could be fun to play with, looking at alliteration etc.

I am a pheasant plucker,
I'm a pheasant-plucker's son,
I will be plucking pheasants
'till the pheasant plucker comes.

Food based:

Betty Botter bought some butter but the butter was too bitter so Betty Botter bought some better butter to make the bitter butter better.

Ellen's lemons,
Ellen's lemons,
Ellen's lemons.

Research- signage, restaurants, branding

I started to look at interior and exterior, I remembered this store interior by Reluctant Hero and I really like the consistency of the theme that runs throughout. The basic monochrome colour palette makes it looks traditional as if it's celebrating it's origin but has a modern feel still for the Keds brand.

I looked also at some food establishments like Cool Beans next to college, they also have a consistent brand working through out the store, with this retro colour scheme and also definitions and type on windows etc.

I looked at this Stack stationary for the brand really and how they have successfully managed to portray the word through a basic letter arrangement, I want to be able to use type only successfully in order to create my brand.

And lastly I looked at this business card because of its interactive and playful elements, something else I want to be able to crate, I want it to be an experience with language and words.
